Andes crossing
This programme offers the experience of crossing the Andes from Mendoza to Santiago on horse-back through a forgotten mountain pass at 4400msl. For a whole week you will leave the urban routine behind you and travel though astonishing uninhabitied places, which you can only reach on horseback, where huge herds of Andean guanacos roam freely and the Andean Condor nests.
The high pass "Portillo Argentino" is the gate to an old trail used by gauchos and travellers, such as Charles Darwin adn General San Martín in 1817, to cross the Andes, From this stepp at 4380m altitude, the path descends into a valley where an ancesral culture of horsemen and mountain people is still alive, in harmony with the wildlife. The traditional "reales" (campsites) allow you to sleep by teh fireside and share the skills of the "arrieros" (muleteers).
You don´t need to be "super fit" for this expedition, however the days vary between 4 and 9 hours riding with maximum altitudes of 4500.
